Paintings by Susie: Acrylic & Oil Paintings of Landscapes, Still Life, & More
I’m Susie, a North Carolina painter based in Gastonia making oil paintings, acrylic paintings, and mixed media artwork that conveys color, light, and joy in an expressionistic style.
My subjects include landscapes, figures, florals, animals and still lifes. I paint with an expressionistic touch, rooted in faith and shaped by years of steady practice. My goal is simple, to offer art that brings peace into your home and points to the beauty of God’s creation.
Gastonia, NC Artist, Women-Owned and Local
I’m thankful to call Gastonia home. As a Gastonian and Christian artist, I care about community. My work lives in several private collections across the Carolinas. I am located near Gaston County, the Charlotte metro area, Belmont, Shelby, Clover, and nearby South Carolina towns.
What I Paint
I work in several series so you can find the style and size that fits your space.
- Landscape paintings: from North Carolina mountain valleys to South Carolina lowcountry sunsets and beyond.
- Floral and still life paintings: fresh picked florals and objects that bring a joyful energy to your interiors.
- Figures and animals: funny moments from our faithful pets and furry friends, and gestural figure studies.
- Abstract artwork: soft shapes, harmonious colors, and layered marks that feel ethereal and inviting.
- Paintings in varied sizes: small gifts to large artworks for wall statements on canvas or panel.
Materials and Sizes
Some of the materials I work with include:
- Oil Paint: Oil is my slow, luxurious storyteller.
Oil paint lets me build depth and richness layer by layer. It dries slowly, and creates those velvety transitions and luminous glows you see in classic paintings. It’s perfect for pieces that feel timeless and textured. - Acrylic Paint: Acrylic is my quick, energetic partner.
Acrylics dry fast — almost as fast as inspiration strikes. They’re versatile and bold, letting me shift from soft washes to thick, sculptural strokes in minutes. When you see bright, modern, punchy colors or playful textures, that’s usually acrylic working its magic. - Mixed Media: Mixed media is where I let myself break the rules.
This is where I combine paint with unexpected materials — pastels, paper, ink, graphite, even pieces of fabric or found objects. Mixed media adds dimension and surprise to a piece. - Canvases and Panels: Stretched canvases are thicker, with a surface that has a soft tension. Panels are canvas surfaces mounted onto sturdy boards, making them firm, portable, and perfect for quicker studies or detailed work. Both can be framed.
Faith at the Center
My faith shapes my practice each day. I paint with prayer in my heart, giving thanks for the joy of inspiration and the goodness of the Lord. I hope you will find this energy in the work. Through my work I aim to honor Jesus and serve your home.
